Keeping Updated

Things have been real busy lately, and so I haven't been able to update VSA activities. I will do this ASAP.

Even though school is over for the year, it's nice to have quite a few members still present for summer sessions, and actively staying involved to make VSA a stronger organization. Some exciting things that have taken place was the "Student Recreation Center (SRC) Challenge Course".

The challenge course was paid by VSA, and it allowed us to interact and do challenging activities that involved cooperation and trust. They were good team building activities, and definitely entertaining. I will post up pictures soon.

Some events to look forward to in the future:

1. UNAVSA Conference (July 31st):
  • Plan out where the members are going to stay
    • Hotel Registration is due July 10th
  • Gas will be funded by VSA
    • $100 dollars for each vehicle
  • Vote on spending VSA funds to reduce ticket fees by $20.00, totaling $200 for all members going
  • Members currently attending:
      1. Anthony Nguyen
      2. Joey Nguyen
      3. Jeremy Nguyen
      4. Paul Tran
      5. Jimmy Chau
      6. Thu Dang
      7. Phong Nguyen
      8. Thao Pham
      9. Que Luong
      10. To Ha
2. International Up-All-Night (Contact Brenna ASAP)
  • Volunteer sign-ups
  • Clothing Styles
  • Dance routine
  • Submit a Craft from Vietnam

3. Future Events
  • Beginning of the year BBQ
  • Recruitment Strategies and Tactics (this is coming up close, will work on it pronto)
  • Boxing Event: In the works... I'm working real hard on this. It's going to be big, REAL big! :D
  • Tet: Nothing yet has been planned

I hope to stay updated with this blog as much as possible. Perhaps I will open it up for others to post as well, and maybe the new secretary to keep updated with the meeting minutes also.

First Meeting

6.20.2008

I should have posted about the first meeting much earlier, and it has been a while now, and going back to this meeting, I can't recall much. There was a short ice-breaker, and I was still pretty new to make affirmative actions/decisions. Don't want to be the person trying to implement immediate changes quite yet. I'm still very new, and I want to earn the members' trust and respect before I do.

Everybody is close knit, and that is something in particular that I like. One concern is that if VSA does grow to a larger size, it will be hard to host that many people. That will be addressed in the future.

Everything went well, especially for a first meeting with new executives in the summer time. Something that I want to enforce eventually however is meetings will run on time. If members are not present, meetings will start after 15 minutes. Everybody is busy, and we need to be efficient to have time for other things. Meetings will be ran in English. If we expect to have the community respect us, we have to open up to them.

The new structure of our meetings will consist of:
  • Officer Reports
  • Old Business
  • New Business
  • Open Forum
I am very excited to embark on this endeavor! Some of my other thoughts can be found here
